Campare and contrast outline

Thesis Statement: Chinese parents and American parents have different ways in raising their children.

Topic 1: Chinese parents protect their children inordinately from any frustration while American parents regard frustration as essence in one’s growth.
Support: 1. when kids are playing in a playground
Chinese parents: keep their eyes on their children at any time; yell to their children not to…not to…
American parents: never care if their children are in a dangerous situation. Even if they fall down, the parents will just stand their looking at them with smile. If their children do not get up, they will encourage them just in words. If their children get up bravely without tears, they will praise their children’s braveness and adamancy.
2. When their children have conflicts with others
Chinese parents: will do everything to vindicate their children, even when that is their children’s fault.
American parents:will figure out the case rationally, and if it is their children’s fault, they will educate their children with correct concept. Even sometimes they will ignore the whole thing and let them deal with the case alone.

Topic 2: Chinese parents regard grades of their children as important as their lives, which is opposite to American parents’ opinion that children should pay more attention on afterschool activities.
Support: Chinese parents think the best and the only way for their children to achieve a better life when they grow up is to have a high grade on academic study.
American parents:the achievement in one’s scholar level cannot stand for everything about a student, because what makes sense is their comprehensive quality and personal manners.

Topic 3: Chinese parents like to arrange everything for their children; however, American parents think independence is an important characteristic of their children.
Support: Chinese parents decide which school their children should attend, what kind of clothes they should wear, even what kind of person they should marry to.
American parents kick their children out when they are 18, and just give them a little sum of money to survive and to finish college study. So, most students in America have part-time job and apply student loan.
American parents would like to foster their children’s sense of life and world. When they are young and encourage them to participate in family affairs.

  1. Christy, you have a very thorough outline for the C&C topic, and I want you to work on the C&C paper. However, before you write the paper, do brainstorming again to be more specific about the thesis statement "Chinese parents and American parents have different ways in raising their children." In terms of what aspects, are both parents different? Elaborate on them before you write, then you're going to save a lot of time for revising. You can focus on how they educate their children; how they scold the children, etc. You can ask American friends or interview them. You can also use the examples in the paper. I'm looking forward to reading the paper soon. Good luck.
